Navigating complex development processes in the semiconductor industry with confidence

TÜV SÜD at SEMICON Europa 2026

(lifePR) (Munich, )
The semiconductor industry is challenged to bring increasingly complex manufacturing equipment to market quickly while meeting the highest safety and compliance standards. From 10 to 13 November at SEMICON Europa 2026 in Munich, TÜV SÜD will demonstrate to manufacturers of semiconductor production equipment how they can systematically incorporate safety considerations right from the development phase, using independent testing to provide robust evidence of compliance. The focus will be on design review, risk assessment, and safety concepts. TÜV SÜD will be exhibiting in Hall C1 at Stand C1540.

Security begins right at the engineering stage

As semiconductor manufacturing equipment becomes more complex, the requirements for its secure design become more demanding. At the same time, development cycles are becoming shorter and international markets demand compliance with various regulatory and industry-specific requirements.

“Safety should not only be considered only at the end of the development process. The sooner potential risks are identified and appropriate protective measures are integrated into the design, the more efficiently subsequent adjustments can be avoided,” explains Fabian Bartholomäus, Team Leader for SEMI Testing & Certification at TÜV SÜD. “Our approach therefore begins right at the engineering stage. Through design reviews, risk assessments and the development of safety concepts, we support manufacturers in developing safe and compliant equipment.”

The SEMI® guidelines play a central role in this. SEMI S2, in particular, defines essential safety requirements for semiconductor manufacturing equipment. This takes into account, amongst other things, mechanical, electrical and chemical hazards, as well as other environmental, health and safety aspects.

Independent safety evidence for greater compliance confidence

At SEMICON Europa 2026, TÜV SÜD will present its approach to independently assessing and documenting the safety of semiconductor manufacturing equipment. The aim is to provide manufacturers with robust ‘safety evidence’ to build confidence in their products’ compliance.

The range of services includes, amongst other things, tests and assessments in accordance with SEMI® guidelines as well as relevant international standards and national requirements. These include assessments in accordance with SEMI S1, S2, S6, S8 and S10, for example. Depending on the product and target market, requirements from IEC, ISO, EN, UL or CSA standards may also be considered.

TÜV SÜD supports manufacturers throughout various phases of the product life cycle, from the initial design review and risk assessment to the safety concept, testing, certification and market authorisation. This provides support in meeting individual requirements and establishes a basis for well-founded safety decisions throughout the entire engineering process.

Engineer with Confidence

‘Engineer with Confidence’ is therefore one of TÜV SÜD’s key messages at this year’s SEMICON Europa. The aim is to support engineering teams with independent safety expertise right from the development stage. Early consideration of risks can be particularly crucial in the case of highly complex systems. Design reviews and structured risk assessments help to identify hazards early on and incorporate appropriate measures directly into the design. This can not only enhance safety and help to avoid subsequent changes, delays and additional costs.

Global requirements, independent expertise

The semiconductor industry operates on an international scale. Manufacturers develop equipment for a global market and must consider differing regulatory frameworks and customer-specific requirements. TÜV SÜD therefore combines its expertise in international standards and SEMI® guidelines with a global network of specialists. This enables manufacturers to prepare their equipment for different markets and obtain independent evidence of its safety and compliance. “In a global market, the ability to provide verifiable evidence of safety and compliance becoming an increasingly important competitive advantage,” says Fabian Bartholomäus. “Independent safety evidence builds trust – among manufacturers, operators, and their customers.”

Safety and compliance throughout the entire life cycle

TÜV SÜD supports manufacturers and operators of semiconductor manufacturing equipment throughout the entire life cycle, from planning and development to manufacture, installation, operation, modifications, and decommissioning. The portfolio includes, amongst other things, design reviews, risk assessments, testing and certification in accordance with SEMI® guidelines, support with market approvals, and technical discussions and training courses.

At SEMICON Europa 2026, visitors to stand C1540 in Hall C1 can find out how to systematically integrate safety requirements into engineering and development processes for 'Compliance with Confidence' and 'Engineer with Confidence'.

About SEMICON Europa

SEMICON Europa is one of the leading trade fairs for the European semiconductor and microelectronics industry. From 10 to 13 November 2026, international market leaders, suppliers, start-ups, research institutions and decision-makers from across the entire value chain – including design, manufacturing, materials, and production equipment – will gather in Munich. SEMICON Europa will once again take place alongside electronica. The focus will be on technological innovations, smart manufacturing, sustainability, and strengthening a competitive and resilient European semiconductor ecosystem.
