The two airports, Leipzig/Halle and Dresden International, recorded double-digit growth in passenger numbers during April
Overall, the airports registered 311,087 passengers, which represented an increase of 12.3 percent in comparison with the same month in the previous year
138,429 passengers passed through Dresden Airport in April, an increase of 11.6 percent. This marked a continuation of the double-digit growth recorded in March. The number of passengers from January until April rose to a figure of 490,185 and by 11.1 percent over the figure in 2016.
This level of growth at both airports is being sustained by positive developments in both scheduled services and tourist traffic. Nearly all the tourist flight destinations recorded an increase in demand.
For example, the number of passengers flying to Spain from Dresden Airport rose by more than 40 percent during the first four months of this year. The holiday destinations of Greece and Portugal also registered significant growth.
Passenger numbers from Leipzig/Halle Airport to Egypt rose by more than 50 percent in comparison with the period from January until April in 2016. The number of travellers making their way to Greece, Portugal, Morocco, Tunisia, Spain and Cyprus also grew markedly.
However, the number of people travelling to Turkey from both airports continued to remain below the figures for 2016.
Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG
Mitteldeutsche Airport Holding is the parent company of Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG. The Group has three subsidiaries: Leipzig/Halle Airport, Dresden International Airport and PortGround.
Leipzig/Halle Airport handled approx. 2.19 million passengers and about 1.05 million tonnes of air freight in 2016. This makes it Germany's second-largest cargo airport. The airport is connected to the A 9 and A 14 motorways and has a railway station that is part of the central terminal. This ensures that passengers from Central Germany and beyond can reach the airport directly.
Approx. 1.67 million passengers passed through Dresden Airport in 2016. A link to the A 4 motorway and a local railway station ensure that passengers from the catchment areas of Saxony, southern Brandenburg, the north of the Czech Republic and western Poland can arrive at the airport and leave in comfort.
PortGround provides ground handling, cargo and other extensive services around the clock at Leipzig/Halle and Dresden Airports.
