"When the doors at the expo centre close at 8 p.m., art carries on in the heart of the city," said Ewald Karl Schrade, project manager and curator of art KARLSRUHE, for on Saturday 12 March twelve cultural institutions and nine galleries with extended opening times invite you to experience the first art Night KARLSRUHE as part of the eighth art KARLSRUHE (10 to 13 March). All the main museums of the Baden royal residence from the State Art Gallery to the ZKM Centre for Media Art remain open till midnight, enabling visitors to savour and enjoy Karlsruhe as a city dedicated to fine art: "Everyone's pulling together and everyone gets their money's worth," he added enthusiastically.
The worthwhile programme offered by art Night KARLSRUHE is an attractive addition to the traditional Museum Mile. Here, in Hall 1 of Karlsruhe Messe- und Kongress-GmbH, the main pillars of fine art present themselves to an international audience. Therefore while art Night KARLSRUHE is on, anyone who got a general overview of what the institutions have to offer will be able to experience the collections and exhibitions directly on location, partly with specially designed tours or special events. A visit is made all the easier by a convenient shuttle service linking art KARLSRUHE with the ZKM and Karlsruhe's city centre at hourly intervals.
This cooperation with art KARLSRUHE is a cultural highlight. On this first art Night KARLSRUHE, institutions, municipalities, and the expo centre are pooling their strengths to promote fine art - at every level. Ewald Karl Schrade: "No-one has to miss anything on this particular day. All doors are open and it's wonderful that the whole city can identify with art KARLSRUHE. This is a highlight of our work and the visible mark of our solidarity."

By the way: "Permanent Trouble" is the name of the special showcase on display in the dm-arena (Hall 4) for the eighth art KARLSRUHE from 10 to 13 March. Feelings are stirred up by a selection of eccentric, subversive works by artists such as John Bock, Mike Kelley, Paul McCarthy, and Albert Oehlen from the collection of Annette and Herbert Kopp of Munich, spread over an area of some 200 m². Also taking part is Werner Büttner, this year's winner of the Hans Platschek Prize for Art and Writing.
