In 2013, VW Motorsport entered the World Rally Championship with the Polo R WRC. Right from the outset, the Wolfsburg-based manufacturer’s subsidiary headquartered in Hanover did more than just seriously shake up the competition – it dominated it in a truly impressive manner. The Polo competed for four seasons through 2016, and four times VW, with driver Sébastien Ogier, secured both the drivers’ and manufacturers’ world championship titles with remarkable ease and authority.
As a special treat for fans, the Polo R WRC Street was launched in summer 2013 to mark VW’s entry into the WRC. This road-going top model was limited to a production run of 2,500 units. Two examples of this 220 hp flagship, capable of up to 243 km/h, have now been refined by the team of JMS Fahrzeugteile.
Apart from the typical factory WRC striping, the first car is finished entirely in white and received a set of Shoxx wheels from Barracuda Racing Wheels as additional eye-catchers. As is well known, JMS Fahrzeugteile has taken over worldwide distribution for this brand, with the exception of Switzerland. The twin-spoke wheels measure 8x18 inches all around and attract attention with their matte bronze finish. The Hankook tires measure 215/35R18, while the additional lowering is provided by a KW V3 coilover suspension.
The second Polo R WRC Street already stands out visually thanks to its SchwabenFolia design wrap. In addition, it has been modified somewhat more extensively overall. Here, the choice of wheels fell on OZ Superturismo Aero rims, also measuring 8x18 inches and fitted with 215/35 Hankook tires. In terms of suspension, a KW V3 Clubsport setup ensures a lower ride height and noticeably more dynamic handling.
To round things off, even the two-liter turbo engine received a small upgrade in the form of an intercooler from Wagner Tuning as well as an HJS downpipe.
