The Israeli Wine Country: Crowd Puller at the ProWein 2009

Leipzig, Tel Aviv, (lifePR) - 35,000 trade visitors from all over the world attended the international trade fair of the wine and spirit branch ProWein in Düsseldorf this year. Amongst the 3,180 exhibits from all over the world, 12 wineries were from Israel. The narrated wine-tastings at the Israeli community stand were one of the great attractions for specialty retailers, gastronomes, wine journalists, and interested wine-growing associates.

The team from the second German television station came to the Israeli community stand to shoot recordings for a report dealing with the theme exotic wines. Leading German wine-book authors and journalists such as Dr. Jens Priewe, Ursual Heinzelmann (Frankfurter General Sunday Paper), and Fabian Lange (Stern, Die Zeit), as well as the chief editors of the wine magazines Vinum, Martin Both, and Weinwelt (Wine World), Ilka Lindemann, used this opportunity to try the variety of wines offered.

It was very cramped at the Israeli community stand whenever the Israeli sommelier, Ruven Rubin, entertained a narrated wine-tasting. Also for importers, wine specialty retailers, gastronomes, interested wine-growing associates, oenologists, and viniculture students, the wines from Israel are clearly of great interest.

A highlight of the three day presentation in Düsseldorf was the visit of the Israeli ambassador in Germany, Yoram Ben-Zeev, who appeared impressed by the strong response to the wines from his homeland. The three days in Düsseldorf were also a success for Michal Neeman from the Israel Export & International Cooperation Institute, who organized the trade show appearance. She summarizes: ''naturally, successful sales conversations are in the limelight of the wine-growers interests. Furthermore, it was nice to experience that during conversations about the theme of wine, one became closer acquainted with our country and its people and in the process could overcome several prejudices''
