Starting March 16th 2012, Pegasus Spiele will officially be responsible for the distribution of MAGIC: THE GATHERING in Austria and Germany. After only eight months as official DUNGEONS & DRAGONS distributor for Wizards of the Coast (Hasbro) in continental Europe and AVALON HILL game products in Austria and Germany, the hessian publishing and media company is now taking on the flagship in Wizards of the Coast's sales. With this, Pegasus Spiele is the competent contact point for all Wizards of the Coast game products and brands. With the distribution of MAGIC: THE GATHERING, the partnership between both companies has been massively expanded and again offer the sale of all Wizards of the Coast products in Austria and Germany from a single source.
The marketing of the most successful card-collection and deck-building card game in the world as well as the WIZARDS PLAY NETWORK (WPN) will remain with the Hasbro-own MAGIC: THE GATHERING team at the Dreieich center, while the complete distribution and distribution marketing will move to Friedberg. One of the essential aims of the new partnership will be the expansion of the WIZARDS PLAY NETWORK, which is geared towards retailers, in order to support them in selling products in many different ways. Furthermore, Pegasus Spiele will make it a point now to lend an ear to suggestions for improvements.
"Pegasus Spiele convinced us through its competent distribution work in a difficult market - that's why we gladly place the responsibility for the the success of sales for our flagship MAGIC: THE GATHERING in the hands of the partner who was so successful with Avalon Hill and DUNGEONS & DRAGONS," according to Jürgen Broy, Commercial Manager at Wizards of the Coast. "This way we also achieve better transparency for our dealers, since now there is only one partner in charge of all our Wizard products. We are glad to decisively expand our cooperation with Pegasus Spiele once again."
For the Pegasus Spiele directors Andreas Finkernagel and Karsten Esser, it is not the first meeting with MAGIC: THE GATHERING. After all, Pegasus Spiele was already active for the mother of all collecting-card-games in its beginnings, in the mid-1990's, and organized, amongst other things, first big MAGIC: THE GATHERING tournaments in Germany and with the magazine "Ringbote", published one of the world's first card-collector's-magazines. "For us it is as if with MAGIC: THE GATHERING, the wheel has come full circle. We consider it an honor to be responsible for one of Hasbro's most valuable brands." Hasbro's CEO Brian Goldner recently called MAGIC: THE GATHERING the biggest games brand in the USA. Pegasus Spiele says dealers in Europe and particularly in Austria and Germany will be happy about the continued cooperation. The path already taken with Hasbro's DUNGEONS & DRAGONS product world will be consistently continued and, for example, the speed of goods distribution especially in Austria and Germany will be improved considerably, as a first point.
