Half a million visitors, tremendous live performances and unforgettable impressions in the glorious sunshine - the early verdict after the first weekend of the Maschsee Lake Festival is positive. And festival fever has spread to the Internet, with over one million hits on the www.maschseefest.de website and with more than 30,500 Facebook fans highlighting the popularity of the biggest open-air party in Lower Saxony.
The second week also features exciting, unmissable moments: on 5 August, the 'Löwenbastion' site is host to classical music lakeside with the string quartet Ponticulus and the Villa Lobos Duo. The next evening sees the 'Toten Ärzte' pay homage to cult bands 'Die Toten Hosen' and 'Die Ärzte' at the 'Karibik an der Maschseequelle' venue (6 Aug.). A fantastic combination of tapas, party spirit and dance show is on offer at Puerto Español & Ibiza Lounge (7 Aug.). Here, the resident DJ's of the 'Wasserturm Hannover' venue join forces with Marc Terenzi to create an intoxicating atmosphere - with dance courses covering salsa, flamenco and merengue for those who just can't keep still. CaboCubaJazz will kick off the coming weekend's entertainment at the 'Maschseebühne' stage venue followed by ReCartney, who will transport visitors away across the Beatles' universe (8 Aug.). On Saturday, radio station Antenne Niedersachsen will be holding the stage. Presenter Kaya Laß will captivate the crowds not only at the turntables with DJ Oli Gerritzen, but also as the frontwoman of the Antenne Niedersachsen Live-Band (9 Aug.). On Sunday, 10 August, the starter's pistol will ring out for the ever-popular Crazy Crossing - the traditional fun boat race organized by Antenne Niedersachsen.
However, it's the international cuisine that's the standout attraction at this year's Maschseefest, inviting revellers to take a culinary round-the-world trip. From sushi and Caribbean delicacies to Mexican, Spanish, Greek and Italian specialities - there truly is something for everyone. New additions this year are 'Puerto Español & Ibiza Lounge' with food favourites from Spain, 'Japan - the Land of the Setting Sun' with freshly made sushi, and 'Welcome to Miami' with American fare such as Surf'n'Turf and tasty burgers. Also debuting in the Festival's 29th year are Smeraldo with Italian specialities, Costa Mekito and the Caribbean Village, bringing West Indian flair to the East Bank, and the Plaza Mediterraneo providing a Spanish touch. But Festival fixtures of long standing are also there, of course: the SeeBiergarten with its familiar delicious tastes, the Aresto restaurant, Clichy, Gosch Sylt, Hamborger Veermaster, Bavaria Royal at the Löwenbastion site, and many other popular food and drink stands which have been tantalizing the taste buds of visitors to this lakeside spectacle for a number of years.
