uvex race 6 - absolutely revolutionary in the wind tunnel

New carbon time trial helmet tops the lot in aerodynamics

Fürth, Germany, (lifePR) - In their first Tour de France, riders Patrick Gretsch (Argos Shimano) and Thibaut Pinot (Française des Jeux) both rode hard in the 19th Stage time trial; Gretsch was the highest-placed German in 6th place, while Frenchman Pinot managed 10th place overall.

Both wore uvex race 6 carbon time trial helmet. This new helmet combines sophisticated construction with revolutionary aerodymanic qualities. Its spectacular shape and unique, futuristic design captivated Tour de France viewers, photographers and cameramen alike.

race 6 is made from high quality carbon, extremely lightweight yet durable material used to make Formula 1 racing cars. This technical masterpiece was engineered through the collaboration of a top development team. The cumulative technical expertise of the world's leading helmet manufacturer was led by Mario Kummer, head of uvex Cycling, ex-pro and Olympic Champion, who brought his material knowledge and time trial experience into this helmet. Working with carbon experts AX Lightness, they used automobile industry carbon processes with the highest levels of manufacturing quality and engineering.

Complex wind tunnel tests and computer simulations were carried out at the University of Graz to achieve the optimal aerodynamics for this helmet. Comparison tests in the wind tunnel revealed that race 6 outperforms even the highly praised uvex fp 2 time trial helmet. While perfecting aerodynamic performance, ventilation on the race 6 was also optimised.

The integrated lens is another technical innovation. This spherical lens, held in place by powerful magnets, contributes to the helmet's aerodymic performance and features the latest uvex lens technologies. These include uvex supravision, the legendary anti-fog coating and a scratch resistant, subtle mirror coating. The unbreakable lens has UVA, UVB and UVC protection built in. Three easily interchangeable lenses are available; almost clear, lightly tinted or dark sun protection.

race 6 is initially available exclusively to riders in teams Argos Shimano, Française des Jeux and Team NetApp and will be worn at events including the Tour of Spain. It has also been worn by riders taking part in road and track events at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

race 6 comes in two shell sizes. It will be available in bike stores this Autumn, priced from €999.95.
