Reiss & Co. plans new hotel in Kriegsbergstrasse, Stuttgart: instructs Lederer Ragnarsdóttir Oei as architect
The site includes two properties, with a total lettable area of around 24,000 sq m. Both are centrally located, close to the central station, the Katharinen Hospital and the university.
Reiss & Co. acquired the property direct from EnBW in October 2015.
The new hotel, planned for the Kriegsbergstrasse section of the property, features a glazed structure with a gross external area of around 11,500 sq m.
The adjoining property, dating from 1996, was designed by architects Lederer Ragnarsdóttir Oei (LRO). While it is suited to a major office tenant, with its distinctive brick architecture it could also be converted to apartments. The landmark building has a gross external area of about 12,500 sq m.
Jürgen Klein, head of Reiss & Co.'s Stuttgart office, said: "We have collaborated constructively with all the parties involved in the development since the outset of the project and we are now seeing the results of this.
“We particularly value LRO's expertise for the conversion of the rear section of the existing building. The proposals for the new hotel building are closely aligned to our own ideas and will make it possible to achieve consistent architecture throughout the whole site.”
The Bürgermeister for city planning and environment, Peter Pätzold, underlined the importance of this, and commented: "With political support, we were able to persuade Reiss & Co. to retain part of the former EnBW headquarters. This was important because it is one of the city's landmark buildings. We are pleased that LRO architects have been awarded the contract for the new building as this will bring a design that will complement and balance the neighbouring structures."
With a number of different development projects proposed in the area between Kriegsbergstrasse and Jägerstrasse, the planning situation is to be reviewed with a new development plan being prepared in parallel with the drafting of an urban development framework plan. This will reflect the content of the framework plan that was developed jointly with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 2006.
The Committee for the Environment and Technology will decide on approval of the development plan this month.

Construction of the new hotel building is scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2018.
