Professional English language training from EF Education First helps Xiamen Airlines take off
On June 26th, EF and Xiamen Airlines hosted a ceremony to mark the launch of the language training program. Among those attending the ceremony were: Johan Nordqvist, VP of EF CLLS, Asia Pacific Region; Enio Ohmaye, Chief Technology and Experience Officer of EF; Mr Chengbao Cai, Vice General Manager of Xiamen Airlines; Mr Zhiyang Kang, General HR Manager of Xiamen Airline; and training executives from various departments. At the ceremony, Mr Cai mentioned that Xiamen Airlines joined the SkyTeam Alliance the end of 2012 to become the 19th member Airline. The SkyTeam Alliance flies to 1,000 destinations in 187 countries, and operates some 15,500 daily flights. Joining the Alliance brings with it many benefits; it offers more convenience as "passengers can get to 80% of the countries in the world by transferring just once within the SkyTeam Alliance". It also offers Xiamen Airlines the opportunity to learn from other world-leading Airlines within the Alliance such as Delta Airlines, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Air France, Korean Air, etc. Better English language and communication skills will be key to this education process, which is why Xiamen Airlines appointed EF Education First as their language training provider for the next 3 years. In addition, another one of Xiamen Airlines's goals, is to promote Chinese culture through their cabin service. Being able to communicate well in English will be a great step forward in this regard.
Johan Nordqvist, VP of EF CLLS, Asia Pacific Region, explains: "Every year EF will offer English language training for over 1000 Xiamen Airline staff including those in customer-facing roles as well as management working at the headquarters. The aim of the training is to improve overall service quality and management efficiency within the company. The training format will combine both online courses and offline practice, to fit the variable schedules of Xiamen Airline's staff. No matter where they are, as long as they can connect to the Internet, learners can log into EF's online school and get access to EF's innovative aviation content, private and group teacher-led lessons, and 24/7 professional teacher support".
Training content available will include Aviation English and a specially designed course for Cabin Services. EF and Xiamen Airlines will work together on the development of further courses based on feedback and staff demands.
Mr. Cai, Vice General Manager of Xiamen Airlines, stated: "Chinese Aviation is one of the fastest growing markets and one with great potential in the global Aviation industry. We entered this partnership with EF to help us to fulfill this potential. We believe EF's language training this will help us to develop both the professional skills of our staff and our global vision as a whole. With EF's expertise in the language training arena and support from our peers within the industry, we feel this could be a new dawn for Xiamen Airline's global development."
