Continue progress on the development of the transatlantic economic relationship
Presidential Elections in the USA
Europe as a strong partner of the United States
Despite the debit crisis in Europe, President Obama should continue to foster a positive relationship with Europe in order to restore confidence in the markets. The USA and EU should work together to overcome the crisis. Economic cooperation between the USA and Europe is the key to sustainable growth and global competitiveness.
Continue to Pursue the Goal of a Trade Agreement between USA and EU
In the coming months, President Obama should place particular importance on the ongoing negotiations of the EU-US High Level Working Group on Jobs and Growth on a trade agreement between Europe and the USA. The reduction of non-tariff trade barriers could substantially increase the USA and Europe's global competitiveness and lead to economic growth of approximately 1.5 percent on both sides of the Atlantic. This would set the stage for the creation of new jobs as well.
Promote Investment in Germany as a Business Location
Germany remains both an attractive place for American companies to do business and one of the USA's most important trading partners. American companies in Germany benefit especially from market and political stability as well as from highly-qualified workers, the size of the market and the highly-developed infrastructure.
AmCham Germany President Fred B. Irwin: "The transatlantic economic relationship is strong and holds great potential for growth on both sides of the Atlantic. Going forward, it will remain stable and we can look forward to yet closer cooperation."
