give the following awards:
The Crystal Bear for the best feature-length film goes to The Black Balloon by Elissa Down (Australia) We were very moved by the close to life story portraying the everyday life of an extraordinary family in this film. We were especially impressed by the way in which joyous and serious moments were expertly interwoven, and also by the actors’ excellent performances.
The Crystal Bear for the best short film goes to Café com Leite by Daniel Ribeiro (Brasil) This year’s best short film impressed us with its portrayal of a different kind of patchwork family, with its three likable characters who, despite their heavy loss, don’t lose their warm-heartedness.
A special mention goes to Sita sings the Blues by Nina Paley (USA) Wertain stories can be re-told forever, even over thousands of years. This innovative and unique film has impressed us with its boundless creativity and irresistible charm.
A special mention goes to Take 3 by Roseanne Liang (New Zealand) The three charismatic actresses and the fresh and wacky approach communicated with great ease by this film inspired us immensely.
