According to the World Health Organization, in 2015, an estimated 360 000 people died from drowning, making drowning a major public health problem worldwide. In terms of prevention, WHO states that "teaching school-age children basic swimming, water safety and safe rescue skills" is a key approach for drowning prevention.
That's exactly what the WLSL event has been working on since 2010 - teaching children and their parents about the vital importance of learning to swim. Here are some reasons to get involved in this important water safety event:
- The WLSL event organizers provide you with everything you need to host an event, including: the 30-minute curriculum, log sheets, marketing materials, press releases, talking points and recognition certificates
- The WLSL.org website features a translation option, which means you can choose from more than 100 languages in which to view all of the hosting materials
- This event generates huge positive media coverage and can help support your positive brand and safety image and grow your swim lesson program, if you provide one
- Hosting a WLSL event is easy - the 30-minute lesson can be conducted anytime on June 21st - whatever works best for your operation
- The event is a blast! Your participants will love it as much as your park staff
Register as a WLSL Host Location by June 8th.
