"We would like to demonstrate that retailing is an exciting field of work offering an excellent career perspective for both, university graduates and vocational trainees", says Zygmunt Mierdorf, Member of the Management Board of METRO Group, describing the goal of the event. Around 700 students can inform themselves about specific job entry and career perspectives at the METRO Group on 8 November. The event is booked out for weeks already.
The Metro sales brands Metro Cash & Carry, Real and Extra, Media Markt and Saturn as well as Galeria Kaufhof present themselves on a 5,000 square meter boulevard in the Duisburg power center. The visitors experience the diversity of opportunities that an international company like the METRO Group can offer to young people. Metro employees – from the vocational trainee to the managing director – in one-on-one meetings inform how young people can make their job entry and which career opportunities are available. Presentations given by internal and external lecturers with a broad topic range round off the program.
In addition to university graduates the event series also addresses teachers in occupational counseling. To avoid wrong decisions in the choice of a profession, it is becoming increasingly important that teachers competently advise school graduates. This is the leitmotif of the first day of Meeting Metro. In the framework of a state-recognized, in-service teacher training, the roughly 600 participating teachers learn more about vocational training and career opportunities in retailing. This way, they get more practice related information for their classroom teaching and can support the students better in their choice of a profession. With this novel concept the METRO Group presents an event that is unique in the retail sector and among the DAX 30 companies.
