Throughout the whole year, the 60 museums and theatres in Hannover, which has just been awarded the title UNESCO City of Music, will feature one top event after another. The 9th Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition in Hannover is one of these cultural highlights. And the application period for the Competition has just started.
Hannover has now been officially admitted to the top league of music cities. Since the beginning of December, the capital city of Lower Saxony proudly bears the title of UNESCO City of Music and takes its place in the international UNESCO network of Creative Cities alongside Glasgow, Seville, Bogota, Bologna, Ghent and Brazzaville. The range of musical education facilities, the city's impressive achievements in the music and creative business, the wide range of performances in all genres - from pop, rock and jazz right through to ancient, classical and new music - and its many top-class choirs were all factors that convinced the UNESCO Committee in Paris.

In Hannover, there is music in the air all year round - one highlight of the vibrant music and culture scene in Hannover being the 9th Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition Hannover.
Between September 27 and October 10, 2015, the Stiftung Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony Foundation of the Arts) will present the 9th Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition Hannover. The competition honors the exceptional musician Joseph Joachim, who found his artistic home and the starting point of his international career in Hannover, Germany.
The competition's standard of excellence aims to attract the best young violinists from all over the world. Violinists between the ages of 16 and 27 are invited to compete in a total of five competition rounds for impressive monetary awards totaling € 140,000. Applications will be accepted until June 10, 2015 directly on the competition website www.jjv-hannover.de. The "Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition Hannover" has been aiming to provide an innovative stage from which young violinists can launch their international careers. In order to realize their individual artistic preferences, the competitors of 2015 are the first to be allowed to freely select the concerto they wish to perform in the final round.
