If your project reduces greenhouse gases, is contributing to sustainable development and can be developed as a CDM Gold Standard project, then you are invited to submit an application for the atmosfair climate project award.
Until Friday, 8th of February 2008 you can submit a project proposal to atmosfair. The winning project will be awarded
a) 50.000 $ and
b) an emission reduction purchase agreement (ERPA) at prices and payment conditions above market.
The award of 50.000 $ must be spent on the project for
- purchase of technology or equipment (first priority)
- financial and institutional matters for project set-up (e.g. travel expenses, costs for capacity building…) (second priority)
- Feasibility studies, demonstration or pilot projects (third priority)
Expenditures must be documented by receipts etc.
The emission reduction purchase agreement will serve as a finance source for the implementation of the whole project. Upfront payment is possible.
Example: atmosfair pays 15-20 EUR/tCO2 guaranteed by binding, long term contracts (10 years). According to baseline emissions (emissions that would have occurred without the project activity), this equals an additional feed-in tariff of ~ 0.8-1.5Ct/kWh in the case of electricity production, guaranteed during 10 years. For an installed capacity of e.g. 1 MW small hydro power, total financing would be around 500.000-700.000 €.

Any company or organisation with a project or project idea in a country eligible for CDM may participate.
Award
The award of 50.000 $ will be granted to one project. Only in case there are two outstanding projects the award will be distributed over two projects.
Criteria for application and selection of prize winners
Projects must comply with the following criteria:
- annual emission reductions of at least 1.000 t CO2 (i.e. approx. 300 kW installed capacity in case of hydropower) and maximum ~ 20.000 t CO2 annually.
- high contribution to local sustainable development (technology transfer, employment, rural electrification…)
- proven additionality, i.e. CDM contributes significantly to the economic viability of the project Applicants must fill in the Project Idea Note attached to this document. Special attention should be paid to the description of the current status of the project and the next steps planned for project implementation.
Applicants must provide full contact details and be reachable during selection period for request of further information.
