The driving force behind the growth was the new Opel Astra, the 2016 European Car Of The Year. The Sports Tourer station wagon version of the Astra has been providing additional impetus since April. About 32,800 units of the Astra have been sold so far this year, an increase of around 30 percent in comparison to the same period last year.
The Mokka was another strong generator of sales. Despite the imminent launch of the new Mokka X, the current Mokka managed to improve again on last year’s high level of performance and further strengthen its leading position in the SUV-B market segment.
Jürgen Keller, the head of Opel in Germany said: “Thanks to this strong result in the first six months, we are well on the way to reaching our ambitious goals in Germany this year. Our model offensive continues at full pace – in September the new Mokka X and our well-connected flexibility champion, the new Zafira will celebrate their market debuts and give our business additional impetus.”
