(lifepr) (Röthenbach, 13.01.2016) The hearing Emily from Holland learned the sign language in order to chat with her little sister, who has Down syndrome. The sister is also hearing, almost 9 years old, but cannot talk. Thanks to sign language the family can now communicate with her. "She can talk through sign language with us and she understands what we tell her. We use sign language as well, because we can learn together in this way", Emily told in the interview.
Emily now uses sign language not only in the family but since two years produces short spots with her mother, which are publishes daily as gesture of the day on Facebook. The "Het Gebaar van de dag" ("gesture of the day") already has over 30,000 followers. She is already a star in the Netherlands, appears on television and her gestures are available as an app more recently.
The Dutch Association of the Deaf became attentive to the sign language competent girl and presented her the annual award for Dutch Sign Language 2015.
