Design and Architecture at ZOW 2010

Architectural Lounge will be all about universal design

(lifePR) (Bielefeld, ) Everyone is eagerly anticipating the next ZOW supplier fair for the furniture industry and interior design. From 8 to 11 February 2010, visitors will be treated to modern design ideas in the furniture industry and interior design, trade fair construction and retail design, architecture and design and lightweight construction. The open architectural lounge (a-lounge) in Hall 23.1 provides an attractive starting point for architects, interior designers and designers. The programme for 2010 will focus on the exciting topic of the future, universal design.

Visiting ZOW is now a fixed entry in the annual schedule of exhibitions for architects, interior designers and designers. Since 2006, there has been a specialist programme run at ZOW for this target group. Last year alone, the attractions in the a-lounge drew around 1000 visitors from the architecture and design industry to ZOW. This popularity proves that the a-lounge has successfully established itself as an institution at the trade fair. It's the perfect place to pick up ideas and exchange impressions at exhibitions, expert presentations and guided tours - all in an exciting atmosphere. The a-lounge in Hall 23.1 will be open to all visitors interested in architecture at ZOW 2010. As per tradition, everything on offer in the a-lounge is free. This year the kick-off for the expert presentations programme will be the project presentation "Multilayered Atmospheres" by Markus Pretnar from the renowned German architectural office 3deluxe (Wiesbaden), held on Monday, 8 February at 4 pm.

"Universal design" - Concepts for all Circumstances

Thomas Bade (universal design GmbH; Hannover) will showcase the current hot topic of universal design. He will be illustrating many different aspects of this concept using a wide range of products. Moderated expert discussions in the lecture area of the a-lounge will give visitors the opportunity to talk to internationally respected specialists.

The concept of universal design is both aesthetic and functional without superfluous details. It aims to develop products which are equally suited to young and old, big and small and handicapped and able-bodied. Requirements include products which are easy to operate and maintain, resistant and easy to clean materials, lettering rich in contrast, non-glare and non-slip properties, successful integration of a supplier part into furniture (e.g. switch height for a light), the pleasant feel of handles and fittings, acoustic and visual, low opening resistance and much more. In the a-lounge, visitors can experience the impressive design diversity and economic potential of this intelligent product design up close and personal.

Specialist Tours

The a-lounge is also the starting point for guided information tours around ZOW that will focus on new materials, lightweight construction and sustainability. They will also visit selected exhibitor stands, where short presentations will be given on materials and products. All tours will start at the information desk in the a-lounge. The three morning tours are repeated again in the afternoon. Visitors will naturally be kept busy with this full programme schedule, which is why the a-lounge will provide somewhere to eat and relax every day.
