Volume of traffic in the first half of 2017: Leipzig/Halle and Dresden Airports record growth in passenger numbers. Freight volumes continue to grow at Leipzig/Halle
The number of passengers passing through Leipzig/Halle Airport between January and June increased by 6.2 percent and rose to a figure of 1,029,066 in comparison with the same period in the previous year. The volume of traffic increased by 4.7 percent to 32,701 aircraft movements.
Cargo volumes at Germany’s second-largest freight hub increased by 5.5 percent when compared to the previous year and reached a figure of 540,984 tonnes at the end of June. This means that growth is continuing at Europe’s fifth-largest cargo airport for the thirteenth year in succession.
810,189 passengers passed through Dresden Airport between January and June and this represented an increase of 6.9 percent. The number of take-offs and landings during the same period was 14,746, almost the same as in the preceding year.
The growth at both airports is being supported by positive developments in both scheduled services and tourist traffic. Almost all the tourist destinations, to which flights operate, recorded an increase in demand.
There was an increase in the number of passengers flying to destinations in Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Greece, Italy, Bulgaria and Spain from Leipzig/Halle Airport.
Passenger numbers to destinations in Spain, Portugal, Egypt and Greece also rose on flights operating to and from Dresden Airport.
However, the number of people flying to Turkey continues to be lower than in the previous year at both airports.
Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG
Mitteldeutsche Airport Holding is the parent company of Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG. The Group has three subsidiaries: Leipzig/Halle Airport, Dresden International Airport and PortGround.
Leipzig/Halle Airport handled approx. 2.19 million passengers and about 1.05 million tonnes of air freight in 2016. This makes it Germany's second-largest cargo airport. The airport is connected to the A 9 and A 14 motorways and has a railway station that is part of the central terminal. This ensures that passengers from Central Germany and beyond can reach the airport directly.
Approx. 1.67 million passengers passed through Dresden Airport in 2016. A link to the A 4 motorway and a local railway station ensure that passengers from the catchment areas of Saxony, southern Brandenburg, the north of the Czech Republic and western Poland can arrive at the airport and leave in comfort.
PortGround provides ground handling, cargo and other extensive services around the clock at Leipzig/Halle and Dresden Airports.
