iF Product Design Award 2010 for four Miele domestic appliances

Award-winning form and function

Gütersloh, (lifePR) - No less than four Miele products have been commended for their outstanding design with the iF Product Design Award 2010. The prize winners are the DA 6290 W cooker hood, the DGC 5080 XL combi steam cooker, the KM 5864 hob unit and the S 7 vacuum cleaner. The assessment criteria applied by the 25-strong expert jury from the International Forum Design in Hanover, Germany, included workmanship and choice of materials, degree of innovation and ergonomics, alongside design excellence.

Miele's DA 6290 W has only been on sale through retailers for several months. This 90 cm wide unit with its modern LED lighting is an eye-catching designer object in any kitchen. The innovative approach involves the use of glass-edge lighting embedded into a stylish canopy. It allows virtually any colour to be generated so as to enable the product to blend in with adjacent cabinetry. The speed of colour change can be set between fast and slow and favourite colours can be defined. The DA 6290 W is con@ctivity-enabled and can therefore communicate with a Miele hob unit, allowing output settings to pre-empt the production of steam and vapours on the hob.

Only customers reacting fast will be able to enjoy the new DGC 5080 XL combi steam cooker when it is launched in April 2010. Demand for this product, even long before its launch, is already huge. Initial production targets have been raised to meet demand. The combi steam cooker is a veritable all-rounder, combining a fully fledged oven and a steam cooker into one single product. This product offers an exceptional range of cooking options and a large cabinet able to take standard baking sheets from large Miele ovens. An innovative detail is the way the water tank, condensate container and wireless food probe have been hidden away behind the motorised fascia panel which conveniently rises out of the way to enable access.

The new HiLight hobs with Miele's new Direct Control user interface are simple and convenient to use. On these conventional radiant-heat hob units which include the award-winning KM 5864, each ring has its own number run for simple power selection at the touch of a fingertip. One special feature of the iF prize-winning model is the 93 cm wide ceramic glass screen. This product has five rings arranged to allow maximum space for pots and pans. The practical Stop & Go function allows the power setting on all rings to be reduced to the lowest output at the touch of a single button so as to allow users to answer the telephone or the door in peace.

An iF award also went to Miele's S7 upright vacuum cleaner. The benefits offered by this large vacuum cleaner, familiar to consumers in the Anglo-Saxon world, are high speed and performance thanks to a deactivatable powerbrush. Manoeuvrability is guaranteed by good traction and the ComfortTwister swivel neck. All this makes the S7 an all-rounder on carpets, staircases and even on upholstered furniture. Thorough cleaning of hard-wearing and heavily trodden carpets also raises carpet pile. Hygiene is always very high on Miele's agenda and the S7 is no exception, offering a dustbag with a capacity of 6 l and an array of filters consisting of a motor protection filter and an exhaust filter. With respect to the latter, users can choose between AirClean, Active AirClean and Active HEPA filters.
