34th Kassel Dokfest: 258 films in the program
The program schedule is online now
This year, the selection committees of the Kassel Dokfest had to choose out of 3.192 submitted films from 77 countries and put together a multi-faceted program. We are happy to present you 258 national and international films: 54 feature-length and 204 short films from 35 countries, out of which over 90 will be premieres.
Since the beginning of 2017, the Kassel Dokfest is registered in the list of the official reference-festivals of the German Federal Film Board (FFA). We are among 30 international and 10 national film festivals, where filmmakers can collect reference points for their short film (up to 30 minutes) to get financially film funding by the FFA.
In 2017 the Kassel Dokfest was selected for the first time by the EFFE Label of the European Festivals Association, as one of the "biggest documentary film festivals in Germany with a remarkable presence and importance for the worldwide community of filmmakers".
But the Kassel Dokfest offers even more than being an internationally established film- and media art festival. It has a focus on new media and presents many other festival sections that accompany the extensive film program:
The media art exhibition Monitoring shows 15 experimental and artistic works, the workshop symposium interfiction with the title *TOPIA! discusses different ways of dys- or utopias, A Wall is a Screen transforms the city into a screen and the evenings of the festival can be spent in the DokfestLounge with VJs, DJs, performances and parties. Since last year, the Kassel Dokfest shows 360°-films in the program Fulldome. And last but not least, we offer several educational workshops and programs.
Many filmmakers and artists will join the festival to present and discuss their works. The organizers of the Kassel Dokfest expect 15,000 visitors in all program sections.
More detailed information on the different sections of the festival can be found below and on our website www.kasselerdokfest.de/en.
A first program overview is online now.
The detailed festival catalog will be published on October 27.
