Premium electric bike manufacturer FLYER positions itself for new growth
After the frenetic development phase of the last ten years, it is assumed that the ebike market will continue to grow. Temporary setbacks such as the poor 2013 spring season due to the weather will not change this. New markets with attractive growth potential are likely to be added to the traditional markets over the next few years. The high demand for e-bikes has attracted a large number of players keen to participate in the growth. Competition, and price and cost pressure will continue to increase.
Biketec is positioning itself to be equipped for the challenges in the attractive market environment over the next few years and to be able to continue to drive its growth. It aims to become Europe's leading manufacturer of premium electric bikes. The company, which was led through the turbulent market development and growth phase by its founders Kurt Schär and Hans Furrer, began some time ago to broaden the shareholder base and expand the management, appointing a head of sales, a head of marketing, a head of technology and a head of production at executive board level.
For the coming development phase, founder shareholder, Chairman and CEO Kurt Schär will focus on playing an active role on the Board of Directors and in spring 2014 will complete the long prepared and planned handover of the role of CEO. Kurt Schär will continue to contribute his entrepreneurial experience on the boards of directors of other companies, in associations and in political committees, and will increasingly dedicate himself in future to carrying out existing and new mandates outside Biketec.
Board of Directors appoints new CEO
The Board of Directors has appointed Simon Lehmann as the new CEO of Biketec. He will take up his new role in spring 2014. This appointment underscores Biketec's ambitions to further expand its position in the highly competitive electric bike market. As CEO of Interhome, Switzerland's leading provider of holiday apartments and homes, Lehmann has also successfully developed Interhome internationally over the last eight years to become a state-of-the art provider in the transparent Internet market. Today Interhome, which belongs to Hotelplan, has 15 subsidiaries.
"His capabilities and experience in international business and his strong implementation skills have convinced us," says Kurt Schär and the Board of Directors on giving the reasons for Lehmann's appointment.
In order to facilitate the growth plans, EGS Beteiligungen AG is increasing its commitment and taking over a majority shareholding. The participation company Ernst Göhner Stiftung has until now held a 40% stake. The company's Board of Directors will now be headed by Franz Studer. As a member of the Board of Directors, Kurt Schär will be available for selected strategic and operational tasks in order to support the company in its future development and ensure management continuity.
