- Audi was Al Gore's exclusive mobility partner in the Netherlands
- Nobel Peace Prize Laureate in the most efficient car in its class
- A6 powered by GTL fuel from natural gas
- New Audi A6 2.0 TDI e consumes only 5.3 liters per 100 km (44.38 US mpg)
- Emissions 20 percent lower than class average
Al Gore, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Climate Ambassador and former Vice President of the United States, traveled to the Netherlands on October 14 to speak to approximately 2,000 guests about his most pressing issue: the reduction of emissions to protect the climate. His choice of transportation: the AUDI A6 2.0 TDI e, the most efficient automobile in its class.
By traveling in the A6 2.0 TDI e, Al Gore, who won an Academy Award in 2007 for his documentary "An Inconvenient Truth," chose a business sedan with outstanding fuel economy. Supported by innovative technologies such as recuperation, Audi's diesel direct fuel injection system boasts figures previously unheard of in this class: developing 136 hp and with a top speed of 208 km/h (129.25 mph), the A6 2.0 TDI e consumes only 5.3 liters per 100 kilometers (44.38 US mpg). And with CO2 emissions of 139 grams, the Audi A6 is 20 percent below the average for its class.
Audi was the exclusive mobility partner of Al Gore and his team for the Climate Ambassador's visit to the Netherlands from October 14 to 15. During this time the Audi A6 models were powered with GTL fuel from Shell - a pioneering alternative fuel based on natural gas. Combined with the efficient Audi direct fuel injection engines, GTL reduces fuel consumption by an additional five percent; emissions of nitrogen oxides are reduced by up to 30 percent, carbon monoxide emissions by 93 percent and emissions of sulfur oxides are eliminated entirely. All Audi production vehicles can be fueled with GTL today.
AUDI AG sold a total of 964,151 cars in 2007 and thus achieved its twelfth consecutive record year. With revenue of ¤33,617 million and profit before tax of ¤2,915 million, the company attained its best figures ever. Audi produces vehicles in Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm (Germany), Györ (Hungary), Changchun (China) and Brussels (Belgium). At the end of 2007, production of the Audi A6 started in Aurangabad, India. The company is active in more than 100 markets worldwide. AUDI AG's wholly owned subsidiaries include Automobili Lamborghini Holding S.p.A. in Sant'Agata Bolognese (Italy) and quattro GmbH in Neckarsulm. Audi currently employs around 57,000 people worldwide, including 45,000 in Germany. The brand with the four rings invests more than ¤2 billion each year in order to sustain the company's technological lead embodied in its "Vorsprung durch Technik" slogan. Audi plans to significantly increase the number of models in its portfolio by 2015 to 40.
