MENDI aims to introduce elements of the dual training system in Greece. "The growing tourism industry will demonstrate that work-based learning can considerably improve the employability of young people", Rachel stressed.
German and Greek institutions and companies are closely cooperating. The BMBF will support the DEKRA Academy in its efforts to establish training programmes modelled on the German dual system in close cooperation with TUI subsidiary Robinson Club at its sites in Athens and Heraklion. Cooperation with the German-Greek Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK) in Athens ensures that the qualifications awarded are also recognized in Germany. Osnabrück University will provide scientific support for the project.
The MENDI project is based on the Berlin Memorandum which was signed by the education ministers of seven countries - including Germany and Greece - in December 2012. In April this year, both countries established a working group under the bilateral German-Greek cooperation agreement on vocational education and training (VET). The group consists of representatives of the responsible ministries, VET experts and representatives of employers and employees as well as the Chambers of Industry and Commerce and is chaired by the ministries of education of both countries. It evaluates project progress and develops further joint projects in VET.
