Munich Re Group launches new sustainability portal on the internet

Extensive, up-to-date information for the public, media, analysts and investors

(lifepr) München, 20.09.2007, Munich Re today launched a new internet portal to provide detailed and transparent information on its strategies and projects in the area of sustainability. The new sustainability portal can be accessed at http://sustainability.munichre.com. It covers the whole Munich Re Group, i.e. reinsurance, primary insurance and asset management.

“The new portal will be the central information medium for the public, media, rating agencies and investors who wish to evaluate Munich Re shares from the sustainability point of view. The advantage of a dedicated internet portal is that the contents can be updated on an ongoing basis”, said Jürgen Fischer, Head of Sustainability Management at Munich Re. “Sustainability is a core part of the Munich Re Group's long-term corporate strategy. We have been reporting on our activities in this area for a long time and are now considerably extending the information on all topics related to our sustainability approach, which combines the three areas of economy, ecology and social responsibility.”

The new internet portal features numerous Munich Re Group projects and performance indicators related to sustainability. These include corporate governance, innovative insurance solutions, climate neutrality, environmental management, employee benefits and social commitment.

The market for socially responsible investment (SRI) has experienced a remarkable upswing in recent years, with enormous growth rates. Market estimates indicate that in Europe around one trillion euros is invested on the basis of SRI criteria. The Munich Re Group has been represented in the most important sustainability indices like the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) and FTSE4Good for many years. Its presence in these indices, which include only the best in each sector, was recently confirmed.

The principle of sustainability is one of the central features of insurance, which essentially constitutes a commitment for the future. For the Munich Re Group, a prospective, prudent und responsible approach is therefore self-evident. This is reflected in the handling of risks, but also in the consideration of sustainability aspects in investments.
