Alpine Skiing: AUDI FIS Ladies World Cup returns to Altenmarkt-Zauchensee

From the 5th-9th January 2011, Zauchensee, the highest ski resort in Salzburger Sport World, and home to World Champion and Olympivc Skier Michael Walchhofer, welcomes the the world's best Lady ski racers, who race over the spectacular high speed track .
Altenmarkt-Zauchensee is ready for the highly anticipated Downhill and Super G racing on the tracks that are already well prepared.. Due to low temperatures, plenty of snow has been produced and the entire track is under a compact layer of snow that is between 30cm and 1m deep. There was also natural snowfall of 30cm in the valley to 50cm up high. To ensure the safety of the racers, 12 km of safety netting has been installed. Piste director Heinz Stohl: "Everything is going to plan."
The ladies get to go this year from the extremely steep start in to the high speed "Kälberloch" right from the peak of the Gamskogel. For many years thsi was considered only suitable or the men as the first 150m has an incline iof 72% and calls on all the skills of Goergl, Vonn, Riesch & Co. to conquer it!!
Altenmarkt-Zauchensee has been a beloved part of the international racing scene since 1980. This is due to the magnificent infrastructure, which is ideal for major sporting events: as well as the best snow conditions and a host of top hotels.
