As a composer, lecturer and author Enjott Schneider has essentially contributed to open up new perspectives for German film music.
At a time when the German film music stood still artistically, he broke its stagnation with his compositions by linking the great tradition of German auteur film with modern musical means. Enjott Schneider is one of those who led German film music into the new millennium.
He created music for films as Autumn Milk (1989), Stalingrad (1993), Brother of Sleep (1995, all by Josef Vilsmaier) and 23 (1998), exceptional television productions like Stauffenberg (2004) and March of Millions (2007), for documentaries as Drei Leben: Axel Springer – Verleger - Feindbild - Privatmann (2012), but also for the daily soap Marienhof and countless other productions. Schneider's film scores have received many awards both nationally and internationally.
As Germany’s first professor for film music at the University of Music and Theatre in Munich Prof. Dr. Enjott Schneider trained many of today's successful film composers. With his holistic approach he became an inspiration for a whole generation of media composers - not only for those who he taught in person. He was one of the key players in the German-speaking world, when it came to bringing back the film score to the academic and artistic agenda.
His publications such as Handbuch Filmmusik (1986) and Komponieren für Film und Fernsehen (1997) broadened the horizons and opened eyes and ears to film music, full of enthusiasm for the subject.
Today film music is no longer the focus of Enjott Schneider’s work. With tremendous strength and enormous discipline he composes, records and conducts worldwide. The SoundTrack_Cologne honorary award goes to an artist in the middle of his professional life. One day after the award ceremonies in Cologne the latest world premiere of one his works is scheduled: Prophecy. The 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse at the Baltic Philharmonic Danzig.
Michael P. Aust, Matthias Hornschuh and Helge Borgarts (Heads of program SoundTrack_Cologne): "We are proud and honoured that Enjott Schneider interrupts the rehearsals for his upcoming world premiere for us. We give him the prize for his artistic and journalistic work - and yet we are aware how often in his career Mr. Schneider interrupted this to advocate for the concerns of colleagues. Cultural and political commitment in this abundance cost a tribute. It is time to say thank you and to give something back."
At the Award Ceremony on Saturday, August 22nd, Enjott Schneider will receive the SoundTrack_Cologne Honorary Award. In an interview with the composer Andreas Weidinger the same afternoon at 15.45 clock he will report on its versatile creativity.
SoundTrack_Cologne 12, the largest German congress for music and sound in film, television, games and media, will open its doors in just 14 days on August 19th.
