SWISS reports passenger growth in first half of 2012
First-half traffic results
SWISS offered 3.9% more available-seat-kilometre (ASK) capacity systemwide in the first six months of 2012 than it had for the same period last year. Total traffic volume, measured in revenue passenger-kilometres (RPKs), was a 6.0% improvement on the prior-year period. SWISS's European network saw ASK capacity raised 3.4% and RPK volume increase 4.6%; and on the SWISS intercontinental network ASK capacity was increased 4.1% while RPK volume rose 6.6%.
The first-half results for the airfreight business of Swiss WorldCargo showed only slight changes from the prior-year period. Cargo load factor (by volume) was unchanged at 79.3%, while total cargo sales were up 3.4% in revenue-tonne-kilometre terms.
SWISS's traffic results for the month of June 2012 show a 4.7% increase in total passenger numbers to 1,374,110 passengers (2011: 1,312,439). The systemwide seat load factor of 86.9% was also a 2.4-percentage-point improvement on the same month last year (2011: 84.5%). Seat load factor on European services was 1.1 percentage points higher, while intercontinental seat load factor was up 2.7 percentage points. Swiss WorldCargo posted a cargo load factor (by volume) of 78.5%, a 3.0-percentage-point improvement on the 75.5% of June 2011.
