Traffic developments at Leipzig/Halle and Dresden Airports during the first six months of 2015

Passenger numbers slightly exceed the previous year's level - air-freight at Leipzig/Halle continues to grow

(lifePR) (Leipzig, ) 1,785,530 passengers passed through the two commercial airports managed by Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG, Leipzig/Halle and Dresden, during the first half of the year. This meant that passenger numbers at the two airports were 1.1 percent higher than in the previous year.

As many as six strikes in the air traffic sector and 57 cancellations due to weather conditions had a negative effect on developments during the first half of the year. As a result, about 8,000 passengers were unable to travel to and from Dresden. Cancelled flights accounted for a shortfall of approx. 4,900 passengers at Leipzig.

The number of aircraft movements at the two airports rose by 2.9 percent to 45,735 take-offs and landings.

Dresden International Airport

The number of passengers travelling at Dresden Airport between January and June was 769,094, just 0.1 percent higher than during the same period in 2014.

The number of aircraft movements showed significant growth in comparison with the previous year - rising by five percent to a figure of 14,574 take-offs and landings.

Leipzig/Halle Airport

1,016,436 passengers passed through Leipzig/Halle Airport during the first six months of the year. The figure was therefore 1.9 percent higher than in the previous year. The number of aircraft movements rose by two percent to a figure of 31,161 during the first half of the year.

Freight volumes at Leipzig/Halle continue to grow significantly

Freight volumes at Leipzig/Halle Airport, Germany's second-largest freight hub, rose by 8.7 percent in comparison with the previous year to a figure of 480,380.2 tonnes. As a result, the long-term growth process is continuing in 2015 after the airport set the tenth record in succession in 2014. This level of growth easily exceeds the average figure for Germany.
