WASSERMUSIK 2012 - Concerts, Films, Discussions 21.7. - 11.8.2012

The theme of this year's open air festival WASSERMUSIK is "South-South" and it focuses on musical styles that originated through cultural exchange between South America, Africa, the Caribbean, and India and beyond the reaches of the Anglo-American pop hegemony.
Highlights include the "Queen of Cumbia" Totó la Momposina, the Colombian cantadora who is worshipped as a national treasure in her native country, Eddie Palmieri, Salsa godfather and one of the pianists of the century, Juan de Marcos, without whom the Buena Vista Social Club would never have been possible in the first place and who has brought together the crème de la crème of the Cuban Son scene to form the Afro Cuban All Stars.
The program also features "Raggnawachaâbirock" from Algeria, Taarab from Zanzibar on the Indo-Arab spice route, Sufi Baul music from Bengalese borderlands, Congolese Rumba, Ska from a cross between Cuba and Jamaica or Garifuna and Champeta from somewhere between Africa and the Caribbean.
As always, the festival is not restricted to music, but also features films, music documentaries and other documentary films. There are also discussions, artist talks, a family program and a "Wassermarkt".

On concert evenings, with products made of, containing or relating to the topic of water and South-South wares of all kinds: from cosmetics from the Amazon basin and ice cream delicacies from Gouadeloupe, to humor, instruments, Creole drinks, toys for young and old, dried fruit and the beach lifestyle.
