fotoprize for the First Time Awarded. The Winner Is: Polish Anna Orlowska
Aperture: «Orlowska's photographs make us enter a cinematographic world»
Young Polish artist Anna Orlowska (1986) is selected winner of the fotoprize by the new European photography art fair fotofever, which premieres at Tour & Taxis in Brussels from October 4th to 7th, 2012. She will receive a solo show during the fair, a parcours exhibition in the Photo District Marais in Paris as well as a series in the contemporary art magazine Azart. Orlowska has participated in numerous festivals and group exhibitions such as Lodz Fotofestival, Bunkier Sztuki (Krakow), Aperture Foundation (New York) and Rencontres d'Arles. «In my pictures I am trying to capture tension and inquietude of the man who has been hunted by his own illusions», the artist explains her staged photography.
fotofever features 60 European galleries
Infused with talent, fotofever explores the diversity of today's imagery, from numeric art to video, showcasing renowned artists as well as exciting newcomers and sparking the vocation of collecting. 60 European galleries will exhibit the latest works of their artists at Tour & Taxis, the spectacular turn of the century complex on the banks of the Brussels-Charleroi Canal right in the heart of the European capital. The galleries come from 16 countries such as Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovenia, Spain or the UK. Among them EDUARD PLANTING (Amsterdam), FIFTY ONE FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY (Antwerp), PACI CONTEMPORARY (Brescia), NKA *PHOTOGRAPHY (Brussels), ROTHAMEL (Frankfurt), CAMARA OSCURA GALERIA DE ARTE (Madrid), PARIS - BEIJING (Paris), RAUM MIT LICHT(Vienna) and ASYMETRIA (Warsaw). The photographers to be shown include big names such as Terence Donovan, William Klein, Douglas Kirkland, Saul Leiter, Munkásci, Jean-Marie Périer, Sandy Skoglund and Alex Webb as well as newcomers such as French Sacha Goldberger, Spanish Lola Guerrera, Dutch Ellen Kooi, Chinese Lu Yanpeng and Austrian Marko Zink. Also to be featured: Russian Oleg Dou (International Photography Award 2007/08/09), German Hans- Christian Schink (Real Photography Award 2008) and French Olivier Valsecchi (Husselblad Master in Fine Art 2012).
«fotofever is the fruit of an osmosis between a curious public, the involvement of passionate gallerists and great trust accorded by renowned institutions and partners», states founder Cécile Schall, who worked for years with Will Ramsay, founder of AAF and co-founder of Art Hong Kong and Pulse.
Private collection «For Galila's Eyes Only» and more
fotofever will also present the yet unseen private collection by Belgian collector Galila broaching the theme of «Eyes». The exhibition is curated by the founder of the international photography magazine «Eyemazing», Susan. It presents a wide selection of Black and White photographs and photomontages by well-known artists such as Irving Penn, Manuel Alvarez Bravo or Douglas Gordon and more recent works from Vibeke Tandberg, Anna Nordquist Andersson or Marc Turlan. "The result is an exhibition both clarifying and ominous, both hypnotic and unsettling" states critic Karl E. Johnson.
fotofever will also display a video space, fototalks and a VIP programme including visits to public and private venues.
