Freeride weekend deluxe in Saalbach Hinterglemm

Time for the third round: Dakine FREERIDE Festival Saalbach Hinterglemm from 6 to 8 July 2012

(lifePR) (Bielefeld, ) Where skiers and snowboarders swish over the white pistes in winter, the mountain bikers and freeriders are now taking command again in the snow and frost free season. And the freeride fraction is increasing from year to year. The highlight of 2012: The Dakine FREERIDE Festival Saalbach Hinterglemm. This is when the popular tourist location in Salzburger Land once again becomes a Mecca for the international freeride scene from 6 to 8 July 2012. More than 10,000 freeride fans are expected this year. All the renowned exhibitors will be represented at the exhibition and will present their new products, and offer them to "try out" free of charge. For the "who's who" of the international freeride scene, the Dakine FREERIDE Festival 2012 is a fixed date on the event calendar. The sporting programme is also second to none.

"The summer has gained enormous significance for us in the last few years. Especially in the area of mountain bike sports, we have been able to record a great development. Within the last 5 years the number of freeriders has continued to increase. Due to the excellent cooperation with the cable railways, the investments in new courses and our good range of accommodation, we can offer the bikers a great deal. From 5 star hotels to guest houses to apartments - there is something to suit every budget", says Wolfgang Breitfuß, director of tourism for Saalbach Hinterglemm." The JOKER CARD, which is included in numerous partner accommodations, is an added extra for the guest. Free transport with the cable railways incl. bike is just one of the top services of the JOKER CARD. I often see the comparison to the snowboarders who wait until it snows in the autumn. In the same way the freeriders wait until the snow melts in the spring, and they can finally ride down the mountains again. The Freeride Festival also offers a great start to the bike season", continues Wolfgang Breitfuß."

And the programme is a good one again this year. One of the highlights of 2012 is once again the Urban-Slopestyle-Contest "Dakine Airstrike"(Silver Event FMB World Tour).

The Airstrike-Contest will also have another new feature this year. A "Step-Up Step-Down", which will allow more tricks and will make the course more attractive both for riders and spectators. After the curved wall ride, which will go around the cliffs of the Alpine Palace like last year, the riders will jump over the wall into the 4m high "Step-Up Wing" using a large kicker. Finally it goes back out of the wing with a Step-Down, and the riders will land just in front of the river, which they will cross using the bridge to get to the last jump. Fans can look forward to last year's winners Amir Kabbani, Yannick Granieri, Aurélie Tournier and Geoff Gulevich and other top riders amongst other things. The air spectacle will be presented by freeride legends Brett Tippie and Marius Hoppensack. Then spectators and riders can look forward to the film "Strength in Numbers" by Anthill Films, which will be shown on a big screen.

The "Scott Gang Battle" is a further sporting highlight, on the third day of the festival, and is also the crowning glory of the festival in Saalbach Hinterglemm. This race format is a downhill race with a mass start - similar to the popular avalanche series. This involves several hundred freeriders "battling" on the eight kilometres long and 1000 metre high course on the X-line of the Saalbach Schattberg mountain, for places and big prize money.

Also in the programme: The dual slalom race "Maxxis Dual Eliminator". This involves two riders on two lines racing each other. Even in the qualification phase this year there is already professional time keeping. The finale will take place according to UCI guidelines and the prize money has been doubled to €2,000. At the "YT Airbag Session" every freerider can show big jumps free of charge on each of the three days. A giant airbag forgives even the biggest mistakes and ensures a soft landing. At the "Rose Speedwheelie Contest" the fastest wheelie biker will win a prize. At all the side events, freeriders are encouraged to get on a bike and get pedalling. Those who want to experience the purest form of freeriding far from the hustle and bustle of the festival should choose the "Big 5 Bike Challenge" (www.big-5.at).

Many freeriders will use the gondola supported XXL tour again during the festival weekend. It is 5000 metres high, but you will only have to overcome about 1000 metres by yourself.

You can find all further information at the festival homepage www.freeride-festival.de and www.bike-circus.at.
